Relaxed Generosity

New thing: blogettes. Short blogs like this one. Nothing profound. Just something that pops into my head that I want to share.

Have you noticed…

When I was a kid, I noticed that when I relaxed my hand, it would curl up. When I wanted to open it, I had to “flex” the muscle.  But in the natural resting state, it became a fist.

I know, I find the weirdest things interesting.

But that is true in our natural life as well. Our natural state is one of greed and anger (the closed hand can be either grasping or a fist).

It takes effort, i.e. flexing, to open our hand. And it takes effort to be generous. It isn’t natural to give our time, our money, and our gifts in service to others.

That, however, is what we are called to do.

Let this year be a year of generosity and putting in the effort to give to others and not making an excuse to stay in the state of anger or greed.
