I like trees.
When I was choosing the design for the cover of New Creation, the one with the tree stood out right away and was the front runner the whole time. Even the title of my blog is “Fruit from the Olive Tree.” (notice the header image)
It’s National Arbor Day today, and the motto is “We inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.”
Now, I’m not promoting Arbor Day. What I do want to promote is “Ardor Day.” It should be each and every day when Christians read, revere, memorize, and celebrate the Word of God. Spend time in its leaves.*
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.” (Psalm 1:1-4 KJV)
The law of the Lord is planted when we read scripture, the roots are nurtured by meditation in the Word, and finally in celebration, the tree grows and provides fruit. That is an arbor day worth recognizing indeed!
May I show as much ardor in the Scriptures as the blessed man of Psalm 1 so that I too can become a fruitful olive tree.
*hahahahaha (printer’s joke!)
