Nope, it’s not about winter, fall, summer, or spring.

What?  How is this possible?  A seasonal thought that is not about a season?

Because I’m talking about the best season…ing.  Salt!  Now, if you know anything about salt, you know that it is a preservative.  Growing up in the church and going to the Christian college as I did, you can’t really get through life without hearing how as the salt of the earth, Christians must live their life to hold back corruption.

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus speaks in his Sermon on the Mount,  “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”  (NASB)

The other day, I ate ham for dinner.  Yummy, yummy ham.  Smoked on a smoker.  Juicy, delicious, and salty.

A little bit later as I was getting ready to go to bed, I was hit by the overwhelming desire to have a drink of water.   Preferably one the size of a 7-11 Big Gulp.   There was no way I was falling asleep until I got a drink of H2O

Maybe this isn’t news to you, and maybe I’m just a little dense, but that’s another purpose of salt, to get people to drink water.

Now can you tell where I’m going with this post?  Bing! Bing! Bing! That’s right, we’re talking about Jesus.  In John 4, Jesus introduces himself to the woman of Samaria as the Giver of living water which is salvation in His name.

As a Christian, every taste a non-believer gets of me should make them yearn for the abundant spring of life-giving water in Jesus Christ.   They should come away from spending time with me and feel dry, barren, and stricken by spiritual drought.  If I become like the world, then my witness for Christ will be disregarded, trampled underneath the feet of men.

John 4: 13-14  Jesus answered and said to her [Samaritan woman], “Everyone who drinks of this water [from the well] will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”  (NASB)

Are we causing the world to thirst?
